Top 25 Michigan high school boys basketball rankings (1/22/2024)

The Eaglets were able to avenge their only loss of the season and defeat U of D Jesuit 76-68 on Friday. Standout junior Eaglet forward Trey McKenney had 27 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in the win. St. Mary’s Prep will try to get its second win of the season over De La Salle on January 23. 

The Trojans were able to handle East Kentwood for a 66-47 victory on Saturday. Since their 69-62 win over Waverly, the Trojans have won their last two games by a combined 42 points. East Lansing has to visit Holt (1/22) and Okemos (1/25) before hosting Warren Lincoln on January 27. 

North Farmington defeated GlenOak (Ohio) 62-54 on Sunday. It was North Farmington’s first time scoring over 60 points since it beat West Bloomfield 61-46 (1/4). The Raiders will host Groves next on January 23. 

The Abes were able to beat Grand Rapids Chrisitan 49-47 on a buzzer beating three pointer from senior forward Timarion Minor. It was Lincoln’s lowest scoring game of the season, with its previous low of 52 coming in a win against Utica Eisenhower on January 5. The Abes have a chance to beat Eisenhower for the second time this season when they play on January 24. 

Dearborn dominated Churchill for a 82-23 win on Tuesday, and three days later it beat Belleville 78-68. The Pioneers have three straight away games coming up, followed by three straight home games. First, the Pioneers have to visit Wayne Memorial on January 23. 

Muskegon was able to down Zeeland West by a score of 52-35 on Friday. The Big Reds have won every game by at least ten points since edging out a 52-51 victory over Rockford in the second game of the season. Muskegon has to visit Zeeland East next on January 22. 

The Cubs beat Brother Rice 56-50 on Tuesday, but they lost to St. Mary’s Prep 76-68 on Friday. With their regular season matchups now completed, U of D Jesuit will have a 1-1 record against St. Mary’s Prep and Brother Rice headed into the playoffs. The Cubs have to host St. John’s Jesuit (Ohio) next on January 23. 

The Shamrocks have won back-to-back games since their one point loss to De La Salle on Tuesday. Catholic Central beat Central Catholic (Ohio) 64-59 on Friday, and it squeaked out a 77-75 win over St. John’s Jesuit (Ohio) on Saturday. The Shamrocks have to visit St. Francis de Sales on January 23 before a rematch with Brother Rice on January 26. 

The Eagles lost their first game of the season on a buzzer beater (49-47) against Warren Lincoln on Saturday. It was their second time not scoring at least 50 points in a game, the first coming in a 45-34 win over Byron Center on December 15. The Eagles will get a chance to head back in the right direction when they visit Lowell on January 23

Brother Rice was finally able to get its first win in the month of January with a 47-45 victory over De La Salle on Friday. Prior to Friday, the Warriors had lost four games in a row dating back to January 4. Brother Rice will have to visit Central Catholic (Ohio) next on January 23. 

De La Salle was able to beat Detroit Catholic Central 72-71 on Tuesday, but it lost to Brother Rice 47-45 on Friday. The Pilots still have some tough games on their schedule, starting with a home game against St. Mary’s Prep on January 23. 

Cass Tech lost its first game of the season to Zeeland West on Saturday by a score of 61-42. Coming into the game, the Technicians hadn’t played since beating Renaissance 88-85 on January 12. Cass Tech has a chance to get back in the win column when it visits cross-town rival Detroit King on January 23. 

Northview was able to beat Forest Hills Central (75-54) and East Grand Rapids (61-35), but it lost its first game of the season to Detroit King on Saturday by a score of 54-53. It was just the second time this season the Wildcats didn’t score at least 60 points, with the first coming in a 44-36 win over Fitzgerald on December 27. The Wildcats will play Byron Center next on January 23. 

The Chieftains remained undefeated with a 58-41 win over Anchor Bay on Thursday. Utica has won its last five games by a combined 127 points, dating back to December 21. Utica hosts Lake Shore next on January 22.

King was able to edge out a 54-53 victory over Grand Rapids Northview on Saturday. Due to a winter storm causing a multitude of games to be postponed or canceled across Michigan last week, the Crusaders have played just three games in the month of January so far. King hosts rival Cass Tech next on January 23. 

Waverly was able to beat Grand Ledge 57-48 on Thursday. It was the Warriors’ first game since falling to East Lansing on January 11. Waverly will host Okemos next on January 22. 

Summit Academy North was able to dominate Michigan Collegiate 89-43 on Thursday. Summit Academy North has scored at least 73 points in each of its last four games, including a 91-18 win over Lincoln-King Academy on January 2. Summit Academy North will have to host University Prep next on January 22. 

Whitehall remained undefeated with a 74-23 win over Orchard View on Friday. The Vikings have now won their last three games by a combined 137 points. Whitehall will look to stay on a roll when it visits Cadillac next on January 23. 

Heritage lost to Grand Blanc by a score of 72-61 on Tuesday. After starting the season 7-0, the Hawks have now lost two games straight. Heritage will have a chance to steer the ship in the right direction when they visit rival Saginaw on January 23.

The Rams defeated Hudsonville on Tuesday (55-52) and East Kentwood on Friday (61-56). Rockford has now won seven games in a row since losing to Muskegon 52-51 on December 15. The Rams will visit West Ottawa next on January 23.

The Cougars easily beat Forest Hills Eastern (82-55) and Cedar Springs (68-46) last week. Catholic Central has rattled off five wins in a row since losing three straight in December. The Cougars are set to visit Ottawa Hills next on January 23. 

The River Rats lost to Ann Arbor Pioneer on Wednesday (61-55), but they were able to beat Ann Arbor Skyline 63-50 on Friday. Ann Arbor Huron has to visit Lincoln next on January 23. 

Davison was able to beat Lapeer by a score of 85-40 on Friday. Due to postponements, it was the first game the Cardinals played since losing to Detroit Catholic Central on January 6. Davison is set to play Carman-Ainsworth next on January 23. 

The Falcons were able to beat Grandville 51-39 on Tuesday, but they lost to Rockford on Friday (61-56) and East Lansing on Saturday (66-47). East Kentwood will look to avoid dropping three straight when it hosts Caledonia next on January 23. 

The Vikings have won 12 games in a row since losing their first matchup of the year to Notre Dame Prep 59-52. Walled Lake Central was able to beat South Lyon East (58-44) on Tuesday and Milford (40-35) on Friday. The Vikings have to visit South Lyon next on January 23.
